THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN PURCHASING
The potential for moisture should be considered when selecting the appropriate floor covering for an area. In an area that will be exposed to frequent moisture, including steam, such as bathrooms or laundry, bamboo, engineered & laminate flooring are not recommended and will not be covered under manufactures warranties. Flooring such as sheet vinyl planks / porcelain tiles should be used.
The intended use of a room should also be considered, for example a kids playroom, rental application, commercial premises should consider more durable products such as laminate flooring or vinyl planks. It should be understood that although these products are more durable, they are a single use product and cannot be recoated such as bamboo flooring & engineered timbers which can be sanded and recoated to rejuvenate.
The overall thickness of a product should be considered. Various products differ in overall thickness. Height levels of adjoining flooring surfaces & any other factors in the room need to be taken into account. Remember to factor in the overall application thickness including underlay (if required).
The amount of traffic should determine the product to be used. In very heavy traffic area’s a harder grade product should be selected. For example a heavily used living room or restaurant it would be wise to use a high janka rated natural product such as bamboo, spotted gum, iron bark ect or laminate products with a high AC rating or vinyl products with a substantial wear layer.
